Naturalization

Naturalization is the process of becoming a US citizen after meeting eligibility requirements. Green card holders can apply after 5 years of permanent residence (3 years if married to a US citizen). Requirements include physical presence in the US for at least 50% of the statutory period, continuous residence, good moral character, English language ability, and passing a civics test (100 questions, must answer 6/10 correctly). Filing fee is $710 (Form N-400). Processing time is approximately 6-12 months. US citizenship grants the right to vote, hold a US passport, and sponsor family members.
