What is the K-1 Visa?

The K-1 visa, also known as the fiance visa, allows the foreign-citizen fiance of a United States citizen to travel to the United States and marry their U.S. citizen sponsor within 90 days of arrival. After marriage, the foreign citizen can apply for permanent resident status (Green Card).

Eligibility Requirements

U.S. citizen petitioner (not available for Green Card holders)
Both parties legally free to marry
Met in person within the last two years
Intend to marry within 90 days of K-1 holder's arrival

Application Process

U.S. citizen files Form I-129F petition

USCIS approves petition and forwards to National Visa Center

Fiance completes DS-160 and attends visa interview

Enter the U.S. and marry within 90 days

Apply for adjustment of status (Green Card)
