1099 Form
The 1099 is a series of IRS forms reporting non-employment income. Common types include: 1099-NEC (freelance/contract income over $600), 1099-INT (bank interest over $10), 1099-DIV (dividend income), 1099-B (stock/investment sales), 1099-MISC (rents, royalties, other payments), and 1099-S (real estate sale proceeds). Payers must issue 1099s by January 31. Unlike W-2 income, 1099 income does not have taxes automatically withheld — recipients must make quarterly estimated tax payments or face penalties.
