The I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) is a document issued by a SEVP-certified US school to accepted international students. It is required to apply for an F-1 student visa and must be presented at the port of entry. The I-20 shows the student's program, start/end dates, estimated costs, and funding sources. Students must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee ($350) before the visa interview. The I-20 must be kept current — any changes to program, funding, or employment require DSO approval and a new I-20. It is one of the most important immigration documents for students.
