After graduation, F-1 holders may apply for OPT (Optional Practical Training) — 12 months of work authorization, extended to 36 months for STEM fields. F-1 students must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses (typically $30,000-$80,000/year depending on the institution).
