The EB-2 National Interest Waiver allows foreign nationals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability to self-petition for a green card without employer sponsorship or labor certification. Applicants must demonstrate that their work has substantial merit, is national in scope, and that waiving the job offer requirement benefits the United States. Common applicants include researchers, entrepreneurs, physicians, and STEM professionals. Processing time is approximately 12-18 months. The NIW is popular because it does not require a US employer sponsor.
