The EAD (Form I-766) is a card issued by USCIS granting permission to work in the United States. EADs are available to various categories: AOS pending applicants, E-2 spouses, H-4 spouses (with approved I-140), asylum applicants, and DACA recipients. Application fee is $410 (Form I-765). Processing time is currently 3-7 months. EADs are typically valid for 1-2 years and must be renewed. Some employers hesitate to hire EAD holders due to expiration concerns, though auto-extensions of up to 540 days are available for timely renewal filers.
