One of the most significant benefits of E-2 status is that the investor's spouse can obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), allowing them to work for any US employer without restriction. The EAD application (Form I-765) costs $410, and processing takes 3-5 months. Unlike H-4 EADs (limited to H-1B spouses with approved I-140s), E-2 spouse EADs are broadly available. This open work authorization makes the E-2 visa particularly attractive for dual-income families relocating to the US.
