Concurrent filing allows applicants to submit their adjustment of status application (I-485) at the same time as their underlying immigrant petition (I-140 or I-526E), rather than waiting for the petition to be approved first. This is only possible when the applicant's priority date is current on the Visa Bulletin. The advantage is significant: the applicant immediately receives EAD work authorization and Advance Parole travel documents, and the overall timeline is shortened by 6-12 months compared to sequential filing.
