Advance Parole (AP) is a travel document allowing certain applicants to leave and re-enter the US while their adjustment of status (I-485) is pending. Without AP, leaving the US while AOS is pending can result in abandonment of the application. AP is obtained by filing Form I-131 ($575) or as part of the combo card (EAD/AP) included with I-485 filing. Processing time is 3-8 months. Important: using AP to re-enter may void certain nonimmigrant statuses (H-1B and L-1 are exceptions). AP is valid for 1-2 years per issuance.
