Les citoyens canadiens peuvent demander le statut TN directement à la frontière ou à un port d'entrée, tandis que les citoyens mexicains doivent d'abord obtenir un visa TN dans un consulat américain. Le statut est accordé pour trois ans et est renouvelable indéfiniment.
