What is the O-1 Visa?

The O-1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa for individuals who possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, athletics, or the motion picture and television industry. Applicants must demonstrate sustained national or international acclaim and recognition in their field of expertise.

Eligibility Requirements

Extraordinary ability demonstrated by sustained acclaim

Evidence such as major awards, published material, high salary, or critical role in distinguished organizations

Coming to the U.S. to work in the area of extraordinary ability

U.S. employer or agent must sponsor the petition

Application Process

Employer or agent files Form I-129 with O supplement

Include advisory opinion from peer group or labor organization

Provide extensive evidence of extraordinary ability

USCIS adjudicates (premium processing available)

Apply for visa at U.S. Embassy

Duration of Stay

Up to 3 years, extendable in 1-year increments
