PERM (Program Electronic Review Management) is the first step in most employment-based green card processes (EB-2 and EB-3). The employer must demonstrate through recruitment efforts that no qualified US workers are available for the position. This involves placing ads in newspapers, job boards, and the state workforce agency for 30-60 days. The entire PERM process takes 6-12 months. Current PERM processing times are approximately 6-9 months after filing. Audit rates are around 30%, which can add 6-12 months.
