E-2 dependents are the spouse and unmarried children under 21 of the principal E-2 investor. They receive derivative E-2 status and can live in the US for the same period as the investor. E-2 spouses can apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to work for any US employer in any field — this is a significant advantage over many other visa categories. Children can attend public or private schools. Dependents must maintain their own valid status and may need to renew separately if traveling internationally.
