The B-1/B-2 is the most common nonimmigrant visa, issued for temporary business activities (B-1) or tourism, medical treatment, and family visits (B-2). B-1 activities include attending conferences, negotiating contracts, and consulting — but not employment. B-2 allows sightseeing, visiting family, and medical procedures. The visa is typically granted for 10 years with multiple entries, but each stay is limited to 6 months maximum. Over 5 million B-1/B-2 visas are issued annually. ESTA/VWP provides visa-free access for citizens of 41 countries.
