Nach der USCIS-Genehmigung einer Einwandererpetition wird die Akte an das NVC übertragen. Das NVC weist dem Fall eine Fallnummer zu, sammelt erforderliche Dokumente und Gebühren und terminiert nach Verfügbarkeit des Prioritätsdatums ein konsularisches Interview. Die Kommunikation mit dem NVC erfolgt hauptsächlich online über das CEAC-Portal.
